I appreciate when manufacturers take the time to thoughtfully design their products, and that’s one of the reasons I’m so pleased with the Hydropet Portable Dog Water Bottle. Since my husband recently retired, we’ve started hiking more with our elderly dog, who needs plenty of water during our walks. Living in Western PA means we don’t have scorching weather that demands excessive water intake, but staying hydrated keeps us all moving.

One thing I love about this bottle is its hybrid design. The interior of the bottle, as well as the small cup and two bowls are stainless steel, which I feel is healthier, while the exterior is made of BPA-free material. This combination helps reduce weight—well, a little. Unfortunately, the bottle itself is quite large and still heavy, even when empty. Once filled with 64 ounces of water, my husband and I both found it a bit cumbersome to carry on our shoulder. Because of this, we’ve decided to switch back to a hydration backpack with a collapsible bowl for our dog during hikes. However, we still keep the Hydropet bottle in the car, as the insulated outer material helps keep the water cool, even in warm conditions, and it holds enough water for all of us.

The exterior material also prevents denting, which is a common problem with other bottles, even those made for humans. We use the top, smaller bowl for ourselves to drink from and the bottom sections for our dog. He seems to really enjoy having a cool bowl of water and sometimes a small snack when we return to the car. This bottle has also become a staple for longer road trips, ensuring we all have access to fresh water during the ride. Additionally, the outer neoprene jacket not only makes the bottle easier to grab and carry but also offers extra protection and insulation and we’ve had no issues with leaking.

Overall, the weight may make the Hydropet Portable Dog Water Bottle less practical for long hikes, but considering the thoughtful design, quality materials, and functionality, I still give it 5-stars. Any way you choose to use it; the bottle is a great option for keeping both canines AND humans hydrated on the go. It’s both practical and durable, offering plenty of value.

When I’m out-and-about with my dog I want efficiency. I don’t want to need to fuss with an item to get it to work well, work properly, or work at all; otherwise, that can spell disaster. The cozy for the bottle needs to be sized a bit larger so that the zipper isn’t being strained to get it zipped up-and-over the bottle. The upper bowl (water bowl) screws on and off easily, but the lower bowl (food bowl) does not. The lower bowl is a pain to remove, both literally and figuratively speaking. The lower bowl is quite tight and takes a bit of effort to get the bowl to release and turn. At the top of the water bottle, I do like the feature of having the option to have a pour spout, or to be able to remove the handled cup entirely. Overall, I feel that this is a good product, and handy to take along on outings.
